Alf face

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES

I’ll admit something right away. I’m squeamish. The older I get, the more I can’t stand the sight of blood. Please keep that in mind as you read this post.

Most of the zombie images I make are pretty cute and fun. I like the blood and guts of horror and action movies but let’s face it, they are just movies. They are a pleasant form of escapism from the real world and no one really gets hurt. Once in a while though I come across something I find a bit disturbing or even upsetting relating to zombies. That’s what today’s post is.

When it comes to the real world, I hate to see anyone hurt. I find it distressing that humans are so good at being really evil to each other. So, in posting these images and writing this entry, my intention is not to do this for the shock of doing it but because there are times when a story takes my interest and may actually show something of interest in the larger world. It may offer insight to our nature as people and provide an example of how other people are living and dying around the world.

In this case I actually don’t know much about the images I’ve come across. I’ve cast around a bit to find some info about them but haven’t found much. My understanding is that the woman in the images became sick from an infected cut which caused the skin on her head to rot away. She lost an eye and ended up looking a bit like Gus Fring on Breaking Bad. What I find so interesting about this is that in pop culture we see images of zombies and monsters and we are pretty desensitized to them. It means when a real injury or story like this comes up, the horror or the shock of it may be a bit worn off. It’s hard for me to articulate but it’s the sort of thing that makes me really think about other people’s lives and feel thankful for my own imperfect life. Looking at this poor woman I’m reminded how bad something like this can be. I don’t know who she is but she may be someone’s mother or wife and my heart just goes out to the family.

SO part of my reason for posting this is to find out a bit more about the story behind these images. If you have any info to share just post it or a link in the comments below.

The images are listed on IMGUR as “Alf face.” I’m assuming this really means Half face since the person in question doesn’t actually look anything like Alf.
The link to the IMGUR entry is here.

full face

I’ve flipped the photo and put one half of the face up against the mirror image of the other half. It’s not quite right but it gives at least a little hint at what this woman looked like before she became sick.

There are more images like this one from all angles provided on the Imgur post.
