There are people, not that I understand them, but people who actually WANT to be zombies but are too afraid to admit it.

Not wanting to admit it I can understand. It’s not like wanting to be a vampire after all. Vampires are cool, powerful, mysterious and sexy. Some of them sparkle, others have fingernails like hardened glass, and others are just badass European royalty. Sure they’re undead, but undead is better than dead any day, unless of course you’re an undead corpse walking around eating the neighbors.

So what’s the attraction? To me it’s partly about the costume and the dress up. Halloween and costume parties are the few times of the year where we get to  dress up and act a bit wild. By putting on a costume we step into the role of a different person and leave our own selves behind. And by stepping into the role of the zombie, we let it all go. Work, marriage, life, love, family, responsibility and human society itself. We reduce ourselves to the slobbering animal that lies at the heart of every beast. The wild heart of the primal primate beast.

So don’t be coy. Give yourself over to it. Give up and give in. Let yourself become the animal.

As I’m typing this though it occurs to me that I’ve really described a werewolf more than a zombie.

So what do you think?
