There’s been a profound change on AMC’s the Walking Dead this season, (4) which ramps up the danger posed by the zombies to a new level. I know some people who’ve seen the new season but missed the difference.
It’s disease carrying zombies and they represent a whole new kind of nasty.
As the story this season has progressed people have started getting sick. Without the usual types of medicine and disease prevention, sickness is spreading through the survivors. What we’ve seen is sickness carried by pigs and humans but also spread by zombies who were infected and died of their sickness. Keep in mind this is NOT the same sickness that turns people into zombies in the first place. It’s just a regular sickness that would be treatable under normal circumstances. In one brilliant scene some survivors are trapped between some approaching zombies who died of the sickness and are therefore dangerous carriers, and another group of zombies which are coming from the other direction. That was it. That was the moment the Walking Dead turned a corner and made it clear that there were two distinct groups of walkers out there.
